Zia Kasi, Sanaullah guide Quetta to victory in 18th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament

(KarachiCliffNews): Zia Kasi and Sanaullah guided Quetta Seniors to seven-wicket victory over Karachi Haseen Habib in the 18th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2016-17 here at the Naya Nazimabad Lawai Stadium the other day. In the other Southern Zone matches of the tournament held over the weekend at the same venue, Quetta Seniors, however, was beaten by Karachi A A Pakwan 22 runs while Karachi Airport Gymkhana overwhelmed Karachi Gold Bridge Media by seven wickets and KDA edged out NJC by four runs. A record number of 111 teams from all parts of the country are contesting the tournament, being organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) for the eighteenth year running. The Quetta Seniors off-spinners Zia Kasi (3-33) and Raj Hans (2-20) restricted Karachi Haseen Habib to 167 for seven in the allotted 20 overs and the target was reached in 19.2 overs with Sanaullah scoring an unbeaten 82 off 43 balls with the help of three sixes and four fours. He shared 125-run unbroken fourth wicket stand with Azizullah who returned undefeated on 44 off 35 balls. Karachi A A Pakwan overcame a nightmarish start against Quetta Seniors, having lost both their openers without scoring, to reach a total of 164 for five off 20 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed top scored with an unbeaten 85 off 62 balls while Tariq Farooqui contributed 57 off 34 balls. Azizullah (46 off 44 balls) and Ali Ahmed (44 off 31 balls) provided Quetta Seniors a strong platform for second successive win but the innings was wrecked by the Karachi A A Pakwan spin duo of Kamran Umar (3-22) and Irfanullah (2-29), restricting their opponents to 142 for eight. Fine knocks from Kamran Hussain (46 off 31 balls) and Waheed Khan (36 off 22 balls) helped Karachi Gold Bridge Media score 170 for seven in 20 overs despite to tight spells from Wasim Ahmed (2-22), Zafar Ali (2-22) and Shabbir Ali (2-23). The 147-run second wicket stand between opener Anwarullah (71 off 46 balls) and Javed Ali (66 off 45 balls) powered the Karachi Airport Gymkhana chase, who raced to the target of 171 in 18.3 overs. Opener Raees Ahmed’s unbeaten 73 off 62 balls allowed KDA to post a total of 164 for four in 20 overs against NJC who was restricted to 160 for four in reply, unable to take advantage of the 72-run opening partnership between Kashif Butt (40 off 35 balls) and Asif Durrani (34 off 41 balls).
