Karachi(CliffNews) Rizwan Aslam scored a sensational unbeaten 151 off 79 balls for Lahore Golden Eagles who whipped Faisalabad by 73 runs in the latest round of the Northern Zone matches of the 18th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2016-17 being played in diffeerent centres of the country. In the other matches Kohat overpowered Peshawar ZXMCO by seven wickets at Arabab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar, Lahore Turk Plast defeated Muridke Tigers by seven wicket at Stags Ground Lahore and Gujranwala Blues humbled Sialkot Professionals by 10 wickets at DC Colony Ground, Gujranwala. A record number of 111 teams from all parts of the country are contesting the tournament, being organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) for the eighteenth year running. Rizwan Aslam hammered eight sixes and 13 fours in his unbeaten 151 off 79 balls while opener Bilal Khilji scored 80 off 64 balls and Mohammad Shahbaz struck 55 off 25 balls to lift the Lahore Golden eagles total to 299 for four off 30 overs despite Faialabad leg-spinner Kashif Raza’s three-wicket haul. Chasing a formidable 300 off 30 overs, Faisalabad could score 226 for nine with notable contributions coming from Rizwan Tahir (58 off 42 balls) and Javed Iqbal Iqbal (43 off 36 balls) as the innings was wrecked by Rauf Wyne (3-33) and Rizwan Aslam (3-36). Muridke Tigers’ opener Khalid Saleem (110 off 83 balls) fought a lone battle against the Lahore Turk Plast left-arm spinners Nadeem Boota (3-38) and Amin Khan (2-41), helping his side reach a total of 215 for nine off 30 overs. Lahore Turk Plast reached the target of 216 in the final over as the chase was guided by opener Dastagir Butt who remained undefeated on 87 off 84 balls while his opening partner Adnan khan scored 84 off 64 balls in the 132-run first wicket partnership. The Gujranwala Blues medium-pacers Sohail Butt (3-8) and Nadeem Khalid (2-13) rocked the Sialkot Professionals top-order to send them tumbling to 76 all out in 22.1 overs. The openers Khalid Yaqoob (47 off 36 balls) and Tariq Mahmood (22 off 22 balls) completed the job for Gujranwala Blue, knocking off the target of 77 in just 9.4 overs. Peshawar ZXMCO scored 163 for seven off 25 overs against Kohat with opener Javed Ahmed making 56 off 53 balls. Kohat lost a couple of early wickets but the 99-run third wicket stand between Mohammad Kashif and Abdul Wasay got them home comfortably. Abdul Wasay contributed 48 off 39 balls while Mohammad Kashif remained unbeaten on 62 off 61 balls as the winning runs runs came with 3.2 overs to spare.
