Karachi(Mirza Iftikhar Baig)From the moment Red Bull Soundclash was announced one could easily tell this will be no ordinary clash between yesteryear rockstar ‘Ali Azmat’ and new music sensation ‘Umair Jaswal’… but infact will be a clash that will set new trends in the music industry of Pakistan and most importantly help revive the live music scene of Karachi. If you were part of the legendary event on August 27th in Karachi, you will be able to relate to it.After days and weeks of tension between Ali Azmat and Umair Jaswal both rockstars finally decided to settle their growing differences for once and all by clashing on stage in the Red Bull Soundclash. Fans of both eagerly awaited for August 27th, the day when Red Bull Soundclash was scheduled to take place in Karachi. Fans took it to social media to support their favorite artist, tickets were sold out a week prior to the event; this proved how Karachiites were eagerly looking for avenues and moments to enjoy music, most specifically live music, to the fullest…an expectation fulfilled by Red Bull Soundclash on August 27th.The event started with a drum solo by Pakistan’s finest drummers, Gumby and Ahad. After which Ahmed Ali Butt took charge on stage and invited both Ali Azmat and Umair Jaswal to kick-off the first-ever Red Bull Soundclash in Pakistan with the ‘WARM-UP’. Both Azmat and Jaswal sang three songs and charged up the crowd for the night. This was followed by the first round ‘THE COVER’, the DJ of the night ‘Faisal Baig’ played a famous track for each Azmat and Jaswal in order for both to play a cover version of that famous song in their own unique style; the round started with Azmat. At the end of ‘THE COVER’ when Ahmed Ali Butt asked the crowd for their preference the score level gauged by the applause meter was high for both. Moving on to round 2 ‘THE TAKEOVER’ where Ali Azmat played one of his hits and in the middle of the song Jaswal took over by singing the song in his own style. Once again the applause meter results were in favor of both artists. In Round 3 ‘THE CLASH’ both Jaswal and Azmat played their own songs in different styles; by this point fans of both artists were seen dancing, cheering and rooting for their favorite artist to win. Again the score level gauged by the applause meter were high for both artists; thus adding more excitement and anticipation amongst all those present. The fourth and final round was ‘THE WILD CARD’ where Ali Azmat and Umair Jaswal were asked to invite a musician of their choice to collaborate on stage; Jaswal invited Faraz Anwar and Azmat choice was Mikaal Hasan. Fans of both artists were in for a surprise during the final round as no one was aware nor had any idea of who will be the wild card entry of both Jaswal and Azmat. Once again when Ahmed Ali Butt asked the audience for their response, the result gauged by applause meter was in favor of both. By this time Ali Azmat invited Umair Jaswal on his stage to end the tension that was brewing between them since quite sometime especially on the day of the event and voiced his appreciation for both Jaswal and Pakistani music as a whole. Umair Jaswal on the other hand embraced Ali Azmat with a hug and shared his appreciation for the living legend.The first-ever Red Bull Soundclash ended with both Ali Azmat and Umair Jaswal charging up the crowd once again with the legendary track ‘Jazba Junoon’; both artists indeed made the event what the people of Karachi have been longing for since a long, long time i.e. live music and concert. Many present at the event believed that the concept of two stages with the crowd in the middle introduced an innovative yet competitive music concept that has set a benchmark in the Pakistani music industry.
