Imran Ansari and Mohammad Javed star for Karachi Factdate Engineering in 18th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament

(KarachiCliffNews): Imran Ansari and Mohammad Javed powered Karachi Factdate Engineering to six-wicket victory over Karachi Naya Nazimabad in the 18th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2016-17 here at the Naya Nazimabad Lawai Stadium the other day. In the other three Southern Zone matches of the competition held over the weekend at the same venue, Karachi Airport Gymkhana overcame Karachi Development Authority (KDA) by 29 runs, Karachi Mannan defeated Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) by 34 runs and Karachi Haseen Habib edged out Karachi Blues by two wickets. A record number of 111 teams from all parts of the country are contesting the tournament, being organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) for the eighteenth year running. Batting first, after winning the toss, Karachi Naya Nazimabad amassed 181 for five in the allotted 20 overs against Karachi Factdate Engineering with Irfan Ali smashing six sixes and two fours in his breezy 60 off 27 balls. Karachi Factdate Engineering raced to the target of 182 in 17.5 overs with opener Imran Ansari setting the tone by whacking four sixes and 11 fours in his whirlwind 83 off 37 balls and the job was completed by Mohammad Javed who clobbered two sixes and six fours in his swift unbeaten 61 off 36 balls. Karachi Airport Gymkhana compiled a total of 172 for four in 20 overs against KDA. Opener Kashif Hanif and Zafar Ali scored 38 each off as many balls while the innings was boosted a late onslaught from Sagheer Abbas, hitting five sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 62 off 31 balls. KDA, chasing a target of 173, could not recover after losing five wickets for 15 runs following the 66-run opening stand between Mansoor (40 off 43 balls) and Anees (29 off 32 balls). They were rocked by left-arm spinner Shabbir (3-25) and even Hassam’s unbeaten 46 off 20 balls, containing three sixes and as many fours, couldn’t change the course of the match with KDA finishing at 143 for five. Karachi Mannan posted a total of 187 for seven off the stipulated 18 overs against SSGC with notable contributions coming from Zulfiqar Ahmed (49 off 27 balls) and Aaley Haider (40 off 20 balls). SSGC began brightly with opener Aamir Sarfraz (62 off 48 balls) but some tight bowling didn’t allow the later batsmen to cope up with the high asking rate and they ended at 153 for three. Karachi Blues suffered a collapse against Karachi Haseen Habib to be restricted to 142 for nine off 20 overs after Azhar Ali’s rollicking 61 off 32 balls. The innings was wrecked by Nadeem Rao (3-11) and Jawwad Bari (3-25). Karachi Haseen Habib survived some anxious moments as they also lost wickets in a heap after the 61-run second wicket partnership between opener Akram (34 off 31 balls) and Wasim Naeem (38 off 22 balls). They, however, reached the target in the 18th over with only a couple of wickets in hand after probing spells from Raees Ahmed (2-15) and Ali Akbar (2-35).
