Karachi (Cliff News)The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry had taken serious notice of the “Go Slow” adopted by Karachi Dock Labor Board from 26 December to 30 December 2016 to press their demands for imposition of Cess and KDLB Gang booking at the new Deep Draft Terminal, South Asia Pakistan Terminal Limited (SAPTL) for which they have been granted concessions.Mr. Khalid Tawab, Senior Vice President, FPCCI had criticized the attitude of Karachi Dock Labor Board as this affected the port operations resulting in colossal loss to business community apart from damaging the image of Pakistan in the international market. The business community is thankful to the Minister of Ports & Shipping and the Chairman Karachi Port Trust for their timely intervention to bring an end to “Go Slow” tactics adopted by the KDLB to restore the normal operation at the port.FPCCI along with other stake holders remained engaged till the “go slow” was called off. Mr. Khalid Tawab has welcomed formation of high powered Committee under the chairmanship of the minister to resolve the issue on permanent basis to avoid reoccurrence of such situations in future. He further emphasized that the issue needs to be resolved amicably by taking all the three parties KPT, KDBL and SAPTL on board and revisit the agreement signed between KPT and SAPTL in the larger interest of the state. While taking any decision and framing recommendations on the issue interest of major stake holders of business community must be protected who contribute millions of rupees to government through their imports and exports.Mr. Khalid Tawab further emphasized and appealed to all the workers of Karachi Dock Labor Board not to resort to such extreme measures and agitations as the country can not afford this luxury at this stage.
