Karachi(Cliff News) Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) organized first ever Olympiad at University level in Karachi in which twenty four (24) universities and institutes besides Dow University participated from all over Karachi namely AKU, NED, Sir Syed, Dawood, Bahria, Greenwich, IBA, Baqai, JSMU, KMDC etc. The event had more than five hundred fifty (550) players of various sports e.g. cricket, volley ball, futsal, basket-ball, badminton, table tennis, squash and body building etc who participated in this mega event.Honourable Governor Sindh and Chancellor, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan had initially agreed to be the Chief Guest on this occasion but due to his official commitment, he could not come and sent his message for all the participants which was read by Patron in Chief of Co-Curricular Activities, Prof. Rana Qamar.The Founding Vice Chancellor, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan congratulated all the participants and said that these sports are necessary for character building and development of sportsmen spirit amongst the students besides keeping them mentally and physically healthy. He also advised all the students to be patriotic and care for their motherland. He stressed that sports gives us the lesson of good governance therefore students should enthusiastically participate in the sports activities. He congratulated all the winners and runner-ups students.Principal, Dow Medical College, Prof. Junaid Ashraf congratulated all the students including winners and runners-up students.Patron in Chief of Co-Curricular Activities, Prof. Rana Qamar in her address mentioned different extra-curricular activities of Dow University besides inter-university and inter-collegiate level competitions throughout the year. She highly appreciated the efforts of Raja Musab, final year MBBS student and his team of Dow Sports Society who worked day and night with dedication.Chief Organizing of Dow Olympiad, Raja Musab also address the audience and highlighted the efforts of Dow Sports Society, its aim and objectives. He also mentioned the developments at Dow University during the last 13 years and the clinical services provided to the general public and paid tribute to Prof. Masood Hameed Khan for his vision, dedication and hard work.He also mentioned that the umpires were called from Pakistan Sports Board for the sake of transparency. All the events were held at Ojha Campus of DUHS which has a grassy cricket ground and state-of-the-art gymnasium. The squash tournaments were held at its DMC Campus where state-of-the-art squash court which has recently been renovated. Free and unlimited mineral water bottles were also provided to the athletes and officials.IQRA university won the table tennis and futsal Gold medals, NED won the badminton and cricket winners title, squash was won by Greenwich, bodybuilding and Basketball were won by DOW, Volleyball gold trophy went to AKU.Later on, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan distributed trophies and shields to the winners and runners-up. A pictorial video of all the matches of Olympiad was also shown during the Prize Distribution Ceremony. The Ceremony was attended by senior faculty members of the University, Students from DUHS and other universities with their heads.
