Anwarullah and Kamal Khan Smash Centuries in National Seniors Cup

Karachi (Cliff News)Anwarullah and Kamal Khan smashed enterprising centuries for Karachi Airport Gymkhana and KarachiNaya Nazimabad respectively as six more matches Southern Zone matches of the 18th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2016-17 were decided here at different grounds over the weekend.In the four games staged at NayaNazimabad Lawai Stadium, Karachi Omar Associates overpowered Quetta by 75 runs, Quetta overpowered Karachi Blues by five wickets, Karachi NayaNazimabad whipped Karachi MannanEleven by 106 runs and Karachi RashidLatif Cricket Academy (RLCA) defeated Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) by six wickets while Karachi Airport Gymkhana overcame Karachi NJC by 12 runs at TMC Ground and Karachi Gold Bridge Media overwhelmed CAA by six wickets at KCCA Stadium.A record number of 111 teams from all parts of the country are contesting the tournament, being organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) for the eighteenth year running.Opening batsman Anwarullah’s unbeaten 122 off 61 balls, containing six sixes and 12 fours, allowed Karachi Gymkhana to post a healthy total of 212 for three off the stipulated 20 overs. The 119-run opening stand between Fahim Ahmed (82 off 43 balls) and Asim Durrani (33 off 37 balls) provided Karachi NJC a flying start but a middle-order collapse saw them restricted to 200 for six.Opener Kamal Khan whacked eight sixes and seven fours in his 55-ball 111 which powered Karachi Naya Nazimabad to an impressive total of 206 for three off 18 overs. In reply, Karachi Mannan Eleven could managed only 100 for seven as the innings was wrecked by medium-pacer Mohammad Naved (3-23) and Rahim Sulaiman (2-19).Fluent knocks from skipper JafferQureshi (80 off 45 balls) and IqbalShaikh (72 off 47 balls) allowed Karachi Omar Associates to install an imposing total of 206 for four off 20 overs. Quetta lost the plot against left-arm spinnerJaved Hussain (3-16) and medium-pacer Imran Javed (2-29) to finish at 131 for nine.Quetta, however, managed to tame Karachi Blues, after having contained the home side to 164 for six off 20 overs despite fine knocks from MohammadAsghar (44 off 23 balls), Raees Ahmed (32 off 29 balls) and Mohammad Imran (32 off 30 balls). Thanks to a whilrwind80 off 42 balls by Sanaullah, they reached the target of 165 with two and a half overs to spare.The Karachi RLCA trio of Nasir Kaka (4-6), Akbar (3-11) and Sharafat (2-9) routed SSGC for 97 in 17.5 overs with the only resistance coming from opener Naveen Zamir (51 off 43 balls). Karachi RLCA reached the modest target of 98 in 13.2 overs with Kashif Siddiqui (34 off 25 balls) leading the chase.The Karachi Gold Bridge Media spin duo of Fahim-ur-Rahman (3-26) and Mohammad Faisal (2-24) limited CAA to 119 for seven off 20 overs who fought back to claim three early wickets but the target was reached comfortably in 18.2 overs with opener Mati-ur-Rahmanreturning undefeated on 66 off 53 balls.
