Lille(Cliff News)The MindSports International World Scrabble Championship kicked off at Lille, France today with over 150 top players from all over the world taking part in the 5-day event.Players are divided in two groups. The A division comprises players with a rating of 1700 or more while the rest play in the division B. Pakistan’s Waseem Khatri and Moiz Baig are placed in division A which features several former world champions. 8 of the top ten players in the world are taking part in this year’s championship.Pakistan’s Hasham Hadi Khan earned a berth in the A division based on his performance at the WYSC. At just 11 years of age he is the youngest player in history to have played in the top division of the world scrabble championship.At the end of day one Moiz Baig won 4 out of his 8 matches while Waseem won 3.Former world champion Mark Nyman of England is the only player that have won all 8 matches today.In the division B Pakistan’s Abdullah Abbasi is on top at the end of day one. Abdullah has won 7 of his 8 matches.Tariq Pervez, Inayatullah, Amy Byrne, Mario Ananda and Taha Mirza are all on 6 wins.Another 8 matches will be played tomorrow.
